Thai model, 30, found dead floating on raft in Thailand's River Kwai
A Thai model was found floating in a river, with police now investigating her mysterious death in Thailand.
Sukanya Thawichokkamthon, 30, was allegedly drunk when she hailed a Grab car to take her to the Somdet Phra Sangharaja Yannasangwon Bridge over the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi.
The driver claimed Sukanya appeared to be looking for someone as he dropped her off on July 15.
But the young woman was discovered dead by a local fisherman the next day.
Police attended the scene following a report that a corpse was lodged on a raft at the river.
They recovered the deceased female, who had a small build and black hair.
She was wearing a shirt with yellow smiley-face patterns, a leopard-print bra, black denim shorts and light purple underwear. A packet of white powder was collected from her bra.
Police said there were no visible signs of assault on the body, which was bloated and wrinkled from prolonged submersion.
Officers believe she had been dead for around 48 hours.
Police Lieutenant Nithikorn Sankham said: 'The body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.'
Sukanya's sister came forward to identify the deceased, with DNA tests confirming their relationship.
Police have collected CCTV footage of Sukanya at her apartment on the morning of her alleged disappearance.
She was seen being dropped off at the building while drunk at around 1:22 am local time on July 15.
But around an hour later, the mother-of-one left again in a Grab car to travel to the Somdet Phra Sangharaja Yannasangwon Bridge, around four kilometres (2.5 miles) from her apartment.
The taxi driver insisted he was innocent in an interview with local media.
He said: 'She told me to take her to Sangkharat Bridge, exactly where they found the body.
'She seemed intoxicated. When we were talking, I had to keep repeating questions.
'When we arrived, she left the car. There weren't any people around at that time. It looked like she was searching for someone or something.'
Police have investigated Sukanya's room and said nothing was out of the ordinary.
They added that they were identifying the white powder found in Sukanya's bra, and were trying to locate her missing bag and phone.
The model's family said they still had doubts about her death.
Her sister said: 'Even though the preliminary investigation showed no signs of assault, we are still waiting for the results of the detailed autopsy, which are expected in 15 days.
'I was surprised police found a packet of white powder in my sister's bra. She never really shared any personal matters with me.
'I want the police to find what caused her death. I don't believe she would take her own life, especially since she has a son whom she loves very much. She wouldn't end her life like this.'
The Kanchanaburi Provincial Police said they were reviewing more CCTV footage around the time Sukanya disappeared.
