Search continues for Polish tourist swept out to sea in Bali
A desperate search is continuing for a Polish tourist reportedly swept out to sea while swimming off a beach in Bali, Indonesia.
Marcin Dawid Ryzycki, 44, was swimming with his Japanese friend Nagano Takayuki, 38, when he suddenly went missing on Tembles Beach, on Sunday evening.
The pair had entered the sea at around 6 pm local time, but the Pole failed to return to shore after some time.
A joint search and rescue team began scouring the area on Monday, August 31, searching the coastline and waters around the spot where Marcin was last seen.
Footage shows rescuers battling swollen waves as they tried to set sail on a rubber boat.
The operation involved six personnel from the Bali Regional Police's Water Police Directorate and Jembrana Police's Water Police Unit, four rescuers from the Jembrana National Search and Rescue Agency, two Navy personnel and four members of the Mobile Brigade.
Rescuers also questioned seaside residents as they investigated how the tourist vanished.
The operation entered its third day on August 2, still with no sign of the missing holidaymaker.
AKP I Putu Suparta, head of the Jembrana Police Water Police Unit, said the search was ongoing.
He said: 'We, along with the joint SAR team, continue to optimise the search and coordinate with all information received.
'We also urge the community around Tembles Beach to immediately report any information they know or find related to the victim's whereabouts.'
Authorities have warned tourists and locals to take care and check weather conditions before swimming.
The search comes as Indonesia is in its monsoon season, when heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas can create dangerous conditions along the country's coastlines.
