Police seize fake Thai brand bags haul in warehouse raid
Police seized more than 10,000 fake bags and other counterfeit goods in a warehouse raid in Thailand.
Economic Crime Suppression Division officers stormed the storage facility in Bangkok's Bang Khun Thian district on September 21.
They seized 10,053 counterfeit Thai-brand items, including tote bags and glasses.
Authorities said the operation followed a complaint from a Thai tote bag brand that discovered fake products bearing its trademark being sold online at prices cheaper than genuine items.
Police then ordered some of the products and traced the sales to a Chinese financier allegedly profiting from the operation.
Investigators identified the warehouse as a storage and distribution hub. The tightly sealed premises were fitted with CCTV cameras around the building.
After gathering evidence, police obtained a search warrant and raided the warehouse.
The counterfeit goods were seized as evidence as police continue investigating those allegedly involved in the operation.
Acting Police Major Noppawat Thareecharanphat of the Economic Crime Suppression Division said the investigation would be widened to uncover the full network behind the counterfeit operation.
He said: ‘Warehouse staff at the scene informed us that the business owner is a foreign financier.
‘We will expand the investigation to identify accomplices, product sources, suppliers, distributors and all relevant individuals for further legal action.'
