Gas station explosion kills repair worker in eastern Thailand
A gas station explosion killed a repair worker in eastern Thailand.
The blast tore through a PTT NGV outlet in Chonburi while a technician was fixing equipment on July 20.
Police and emergency responders rushed to the scene on Highway 331 following a report at 4 pm local time.
They found concrete slabs, broken walls, and metal debris strewn across the area. Metal parts had crushed the bonnet of a nearby pickup truck.
A worker, later identified as Santi Duangsri, 40, was found dead under the rubble.
Police Colonel Krit Thititatsana, superintendent of Bowin district station, said power to the area was cut off to allow rescuers to search the site.
Station staff said they earlier smelled a gas leak and called a maintenance worker for repairs.
But an explosion ripped through the building during the inspection, causing part of the structure to collapse.
A pump attendant said he shouted for the worker but received no response before calling authorities.
Officials said the cause of the blast was not immediately known.
PTT said its emergency response team immediately shut down the station's systems and temporarily closed the facility for safety.
The energy company added it was investigating the incident and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
