Chinese executive accused of taking bribes and embezzling state funds arrested in Thailand
A Chinese executive accused of taking bribes and embezzling state funds has been arrested in Thailand.
Wang, 42, allegedly abused her executive position at a Chinese state-owned construction firm to provide benefits to a private company in exchange for a 300,000 yuan bribe.
She is also accused of embezzling 750,000 yuan in state funds by allegedly using the money to buy property for personal gain.
She was charged with bribery and corruption by the Longting District People's Procuratorate this month before fleeing to Thailand.
Police and immigration officers tracked Wang to a luxury penthouse in Bangkok on July 16.
Police Colonel Parinya Klinkesorn, spokesman for Immigration Division 3, said Wang resigned in October 2022, although investigators said her resignation had not yet been approved.
The case was taken over by anti-corruption authorities in Kaifeng in June before prosecutors issued an arrest warrant this month.
The police boss said: 'Following the arrest, Police Major General Songprod Sirisukha, commander of Immigration Division 3, ordered the revocation of her permission to remain in Thailand.
‘The decision was made because she falls under the category of a prohibited foreign national, as she is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by foreign authorities.'
He added that Wang was detained at the Immigration Bureau pending deportation.
