Burmese worker arrested for 'stealing expensive camera equipment from Chinese employer'
A Burmese teenager was arrested for allegedly stealing expensive camera equipment from his Chinese boss in Thailand.
Gaung Ling, 18, was hired by Chinese employer Sun Lianyi, 53, to look after his rented lodging in Pattaya while he was away for four days.
But the teenager was said to have taken 459,000 baht worth of photography tools from the tourist's room before disappearing.
The Chinese businessman lodged a report with police after discovering the worker missing with his belongings on August 20.
Police launched an investigation and tracked the teenager to a hotel in Nong Prue in the Bang Lamung district the following day.
They searched his room and seized a black Sony ZV-E10 camera, a white Sony ZV-E10 and a black Sigma 18-50mm lens matching equipment reported stolen from the victim.
Officers also confiscated microphones, camera batteries, TV signal cables, five centre consoles and two SIM cards.
The suspect was taken into custody while the recovered equipment was presented to Sun, who confirmed it belonged to him, before being taken as evidence.
Police Colonel Pisit Tangsirisetthian, superintendent of Na Jomtien district station, said Gaung allegedly confessed to stealing the items from his employer's room.
He said: 'The suspect was charged with theft from an employer or property in the possession of an employer and was handed over, along with the seized items, to investigators for further legal proceedings.'
